Guidelines
You have to be between 18 and 35 years old
You must be at least 18 years old, and no more than 35, on the move-in date.
You can sign up on the website from the day you turn 17.
If you are not a Danish citizen, you have to be 18 to be able to sign your contract.
You have to be a student – or about to start your studies to sign up
You can sign up, even though, your study start hasn’t been confirmed yet.
You can sign up 6 months before you expect your studies to start in Denmark.
Send your study documentation (such as your acceptance letter, enrollment confirmation or your apprenticeship contract) as soon as you get it to info@studenthousingaarhus.com.
A break in your studies does not allow you to keep your application on the website, and you have to create a new user again no earlier than 6 months before the next study start.
The following authorized full-time educations give you the right to apply for housing:
- Higher education
- Youth education
- Vocational education
The following types of education do not allow you to apply for housing through StudenthousingAarhus:
- Evening school
- Individual modules
- Folk high school
- Danish as a second language courses
- Phd.
- Trainee/Internship (you can apply for a dispensation if you receive ECTS points)
There can be other possibilities - contact us for more information.
When two people search for housing together at least one of you must be enrolled in a study program
When two people search for housing together at least one of you must be a student or apprentice or have planned to be enrolled in a study program in the near future.
Exception: At Skovkollegiet (rental type: 30+31+32+33+34) you both have to be enrolled in a study program.
You have to sign up and create an application
- Your application is personal and other people cannot get any information about your user unless you give them an official authority to.
- If you want to search for a place to live by yourself and at the same time want to search for a rental with someone else, you have to create both a 1-person and a 2-person application on the website.
You can only have one of each application type. It is not possible to change the applicants’ names or add a new person to the application. In that case, you have to start over and sign up again from the beginning.
- If you are a single parent, you must create a 1-person application. The same applies if you have joint-custody over your kids. In both cases, you are allowed to apply for 2-room apartments on the website.
You have to send us documentation such as a birth certificate, pregnancy record or a copy of the medical card.
- If you wish to delete your user on StudenthousingAarhus.com, you can do that yourself when you are logged in.
- As a 1-person user, you can apply for all rentals on the website, but you will be last in line for the 2-room apartments.
1½-room apartments are equally allocated to 1-person and 2-person applications. A 2-person user cannot apply for rooms or 1-room apartments.
- If you apply for a rental with shared facilities (kitchen/bathroom), your roomie is randomly chosen.
- When you search together with another person and have a 2-person user on the website, both of you have to move into the rental, when you accept a rental offer.
If only one of you move in, the rental will be terminated, as the rental then would be obtained on wrong terms. As a couple/friends you’re both responsible for possible expenses in relation to the calculation of removal costs, when you move out.
- You can add rentals and remove them from your wish list as much as you want without losing your seniority. Your seniority on the waiting list starts no earlier than 6 months before your desired move-in date.
You can always change the move in date in the user settings.
You must reapply/log in every month
You must log in to your user at least once per month to keep it active. If you forget to log in a month, you will not be active on the waiting list and will not earn seniority during that time period. When you log in again, your application will be reactivated on the waiting list the following month. You do not have to create a new user.
Remember to keep your user information (address, phone number, e-mail) up to date. It is your own responsibility to make sure that the information is correct.
Your application/user will be deleted…
- If you do not reapply/ log in to your user for 6 months in a row
- If you turn down a rental offer that you already accepted
- If you turn down or do not reply to a rental offer 3 times
- If you are not actively participating in a study program (except from vacations)
If there is a break in your study activities, then you are not entitled to keep your application. You have to create a new user up to 6 month before your next study start.
Dispensation
In special circumstances, you may be exempted from certain conditions for obtaining housing.
If you wish to apply for dispensation, you have to create your user on the website first.
Afterwards, you must send a dispensation application, including the given application number, to RIU (The Regional Nomination Committee) by e-mail: riu@kollegiekontoret.dk
The application must include the following information:
- Name
- Date of birth
- Education, institution, year of admission and area of study
- Application (what are you applying for?)
- Reason for your dispensation application. Remember that your arguments must relate specifically to your housing situation. Others cannot apply on your behalf.
- Documentation from public authorities etc. (these must be sent if you are applying for dispensation from the waiting list). This can be for example, a declaration from a doctor, psychologist, or case worker. It is important that the material includes a professional assessment that supports your application.
NB
- Two room apartments are usually not offered to single applicants
- Housing in the center of Aarhus is not usually offered, except in very special occasions. It is therefore recommended that you apply for housing in other areas of Aarhus.
- The next RIU-meeting will be held as needed
If you are applying for a dispensation from the age limitations, and are under 17 years of age, you cannot submit a housing application. In order to apply for exemption, you must send an email, explaining why you want to move to Aarhus and what your future education plans are. If it is approved, you will receive more information about the application and what you need to do in the future.
Please note that if you're not a Danish citizen, you must be 18 years old to submit an application to RIU.
